@ MONTECASTELLI

Montecastelli Pisano is a small medieval village in the heart of Tuscany with fewer than 100 inhabitants.
Right at the top of it, is a beautiful tower and the former castle giving the name to the village. In this site with magnificent views into Tuscany we want to create a place which stimulates thinking and creativity.

We want to make interesting people mingle with other interesting people from different walks of life.
Science and music are already there. Work is in progress to make the melting pot even broader. The location is ideal for chamber music master classes, scientific workshops, concerts and other undertakings.

It is not our aim to make money and the project will be run on a “not for profit” basis.
Our aim is to make life more interesting and to get inspired by the activities which will take place in this location.

MUSIC

There is a concert hall with a Steinway B piano (Fabbrini). and approximately 100 seats. The hall is equipped with audio and video recording facilities.
Practice rooms and class rooms for masterclasses are available.
There are two outdoor concert venues: one in front of the romanic church inside the village, the other in the the courtyard of the facility. These can be used during summer months. In some occasions the concert hall can be used as back-up location in case of unexpected bad weather. Concert organisation is locally available along with basic editing of recordings for use in CD, web publishing etc.

SCIENCE

The conference room has space for approximately 75 seats. The equipment is set up for web conferencing and digital connection to the concert hall. Simultaneous events in these two halls can be coordinated along with simultaneous translation. Conferences can be recorded and video edited if desired, streaming is also possible. There are rooms for break out groups.

...AND MORE

There is a a workshop for experimental violin making which can also be used for teaching of the trade. The comparison between instruments and relevant discussion about them has already become a typical use of the facilities.
Old fire places and comfortable rooms are available at all times. There is a large garden from where one can enjoy beautiful views. The full 360° view from one single place will be available when the tower restoration is completed. For now one will have to walk into different rooms and places in the garden to assemble the full panorama.

WHERE TO STAY

Within the facility there are approximately 20-25 beds in single or shared rooms. Family accommodation and private apartment booking is possible.
There are numerous family run structures in form of “agriturismo” in the vicinity with an additional capacity of at least 70 beds; Advice for bookings can be given.

WHERE TO EAT

There is a professional restaurant kitchen in the facility and a pizzeria. The services of food will be discussed within the project with the idea of making the most appropriate offer according to desire and budget. For example it is conceivable that working groups participate in the preparation of food and learn Tuscan cookery during their stay. Further there is an indipendent restaurant in the village. There is also a part of the garden with a barbecue with a view to the west which on special days allows one to see the sunset over the Mediterranean Sea.

TRAVEL

Montecastelli is in a very convenient location for tourism in Tuscany. It is less than 90 minutes drive from Florence, Pisa, Siena, San Gimignano, Volterra, the Mediterranean Sea, the area of Chianti and many other beautiful locations. Short walks and longer hikes are possible directly from Montecastelli, for example, to derelict copper mines, medieval fortresses, natural caves, climbing walls, swimming in the river, etruscan sites etc.
The closest airports are Florence and Pisa. Many budget airlines fly to Pisa.
Shuttle service for groups coming to Montecastelli from airports or train stations can be arranged.
